Hello, my name is Malory. I am a graduate of Adrian College. I studied Elementary Education and majored in Mathematics. I was raised in a small community in West Michigan. I graduated from Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Michigan as a 2010 class valedictorian. My mother is a kindergarten teacher and my father is a high school business and accounting teacher. I have two brothers and a sister who is adopted from China. I participated in three sports all through high school as well as four other student organizations. I came to Adrian college to study education and have tremendously enjoyed the close knit community the campus, and more specifically that the education department offers. During my time here at Adrian College I have earned the Adrian College Mathematics Department Award. I also received recognition for obtaining a 4.0 GPA for the 2012-2013 school year. I spend my free time with my family and friends, reading, and running. One of my greatest accomplishments recently is running the Grand Rapids Riverbank 25k Run. The most important quality about me is that I love working with children and am excited continue my career as an educator.
Last year, I decided to expand my horizons and move to North Carolina. I spent my first year teaching fourth grade at Carroll Middle School in Lumberton. Due to the long commute, I began teaching at Stoney Point Elementary School in the 2015-2016 school year. I continued to teach and learn in the fourth grade environment.
I student taught in a third grade classroom in Hudson. I have had experience in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade classrooms with over 500 documented hours over the last 4 years. I have also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee in the homework room and have led an eighth grade weekly summer youth group. Beginning in April of 2014, I was hired to be a long term substitute in a sixth grade mathematics classroom in Hamilton, Michigan for the remainder of the school year.
I have a passion for working with kids. Throughout my entire education I have become highly conscious of the fact that a high number of students are extremely apathetic about their schooling. I have a desire to instill a love of learning and enthusiasm for hard work in the youth I will encounter. There is not another position I would be satisfied doing everyday except to teach young children.
I believe, an effective teacher is one who inspires the desire to learn in his or her students. They are continuously reflecting on their own lessons and teaching techniques to improve to better benefit their students. He or she has eminent enthusiasm for learning and high expectations for themselves and their students. An effective teacher must be organized and prepared for each day to gain the respect of their students and colleagues. Advantageous teachers are willing to search out innovative, new techniques, but also seeks out the experience and expertise of experienced teachers. Providing hand on activities that engage the mind and body fully in the education process is a priority for effective teachers, but they are also aware of individuality in their students that each person learns differently.
