In the Spring Semester of 2011 I was placed in a first grade classroom at Prairie Elementary School in Adrian Public Schools with Shannon Henline. This was my first experience in a diverse and low economic school. I worked with small groups, and one on one with readers who needed additional assistance.
In the Fall of 2011 I worked in a fourth glade classroom at Alexander Elementary School, also in APS with Janice Whitford. Also during this semester, I spent 10 hours the HOPE Center in Adrain. This is a place for handicapped and mentally challenged adults to spend their day. This experience helped me to enhance my skills of patience and understanding. These traits are so important for embarking in a career of teaching.
In the Spring of 2012 I assisted in a 5th grade class for the subjects of math and science with Sheri Johnston. This classroom was in the APS 5/6 building. I mainly worked with the low achieving students to try to make gains in their multiplication facts and understand the current science unit. In this clinical experience I was first faced with very defiant students and had to intervene with new management techniques fairly often. This was a pivotal time in my college career that I know can look back upon to see how I became prepared to work in such circumstances.
The Fall of 2012 was a contrasting placement. Instead of being in a traditional classroom I spent two days a week working at the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee County. I worked in the homework room as a resource for the students to get help in reading, math, and other assignments. This experience allowed for me to see students in another light, one in which many students could succeed outside of the traditional subjects.
I spent the Spring of 2013 in Lori Wallich's fourth grade classroom at Michener Elementary. I observed the social studies class period and was able to individually teach lessons as well as instruct the class as a whole. Although I was at Michener Elementary I spent most of my time participating in many different programs at Lincoln Elementary. I tutored two first grade students in reading and led a small group in an after school social studies enrichment program. One of my greatest accomplishments over the semester was working for the Pilot Program of Integrating The Spanish Language and Culture for the International Baccalaureate Initiative at the kindergarten level. This was the semester I began to gain more skills in independent lesson planning and teaching.
Beginning in January through December of 2013 I have been assisting at the YMCA/ Lincoln Preschool. I spend between 8-10 hours helping with small group instruction, gym activities, and preparation for future lessons.
My associate teaching was completed in Sandy McCarty's classroom in Hudson at Lincoln Elementary. I accumulated almost 200 hours prior to student teaching in order to familiarize myself with the staff, students, and building.

During my time here at Adrian College I had the honor of receiving the Mathematics Department Award and the Adrian College Scholarship Award for earning a 4.0 GPA for the 2011-2012 school year.
